On Monday night, we hosted our company-wide holiday party, more commonly referred to as the 6th Annual StaRLAHs, at the newly remodeled Dupont Circle Hotel. More than 200 local real estate leaders gathered as we reflected on a successful 2018 and made a toast to the incoming year. A feature of the evening and a long-standing tradition was an end-of-year parody of traditional award shows called “The StaRLAHs”. “These awards are not necessarily ones you WANT to win,” said RLAH President, Justin Levitch. Some of the awards included ‘Worst Deal of the Year’, the ‘4:30pm on a Friday Award’ as well as some more appreciative ones such as ‘Best Supporting Actor’ given to someone who has been outstanding in an assistant role. This year included a comical year-in-review video prior to the award show. The entertainment was a hit, but the line to the food proved that the lobster dish was the most popular part of the evening.
The annual BGRS (Brookfield Global Relocation Services) Supplier Partner Forum was recently held in October of 2018. This year’s host city was Seattle, where there were several days of rich dialogue, feedback and idea sharing supporting growth and achievement for one of the world’s largest relocation networks. RLAH sent our Director of Relocation and Certified Relocation Professional, Anie Azarian to participate in the experience.
RLAH Real Estate was one of the few brokerages to receive a Certificate of Appreciation for our excellence in service based on BGRS annual scorecards. BGRS expressed great appreciation for the outstanding quality of RLAH’s service and congratulated us for always going above and beyond with them and the transferees with whom we work, which made us stand out from every other broker at the Real Estate lunch.
Other attendees generously noticed our ongoing accomplishments of superior service excellence and congratulated us for earning this tremendous recognition two years in a row.
Last weekend, #rlah agents, staff and their families gathered for our annual RLAH Fall Event! This year the event was held at the Congressional Polo Club in Poolesville, MD and included 2 live polo matches, a tarot card reader, caricature artist, a food truck, s’mores and more. The night ended with an award ceremony and bonfire!
On Memorial Day Weekend, agents and staff from RLAH volunteered to join VUR and the Gary Sinise Foundation in honoring our nation’s veterans at the Invincible Spirit Festival held at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda. Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band performed as well as serving BBQ by celebrity chef Robert Irvine and Grand Champion pitmaster Stan Hays of Operation BBQ to veteran’s, their families and their caregivers.

As you’re likely aware by now, the DC Council’s Housing Committee passed the single-family exemption to TOPA last Friday. This was a major step, and we sincerely appreciate all of you who came to show your support!
This is far from a done deal, however. Next, the bill must pass a difficult hurdle: a full Council vote. That’s scheduled for March 6th at 10am, and we’ll need even stronger in-person support, so please mark your calendars. Before that hearing, however, we have a simple ask. We’ve heard certain Councilmembers are considering amending the delicately drafted bill, which we fully support in its current language. This is a serious concern because it would significantly reduce the bill’s impact. To discourage them from doing so, we need to flood their inboxes.
Here’s what we need from you:
- Please copy & paste the email addresses of the Council members into the “To” box in your email client. You should be able to copy and paste them all at once.
2. Copy and paste the following text into the body of the email:
I’m writing you today to ask you to please support Bill 22-0315, the “TOPA Single-family Home Exemption Amendment Act of 2018,” as currently written. This bill would address all of the major issues with TOPA for single-family homes, and I strongly urge you to support it as passed by the Housing Committee.

Jason, Justin and Jim visited St. Petersburg, Florida from February 7th-10th to join their Real Living Real Estate peers from 37 other states. There was learning, networking and even some fun mixed in.
On Day 1, Jason and Justin were asked to speak to the crowd about the story of our Relocation Department winning BGRS’s highest award in less than five years. The night was capped off with a welcome reception at a nearby venue where connections old and new were made and everyone shared the same brand.
Day 2’s morning was started by the Real Living Fun Run where our team was lucky to run in 67 degree weather instead of the below freezing temperatures we were experiencing locally in DC. Informative sessions from HSF CEO Gino Blefari, Real Living President Bob McAdams, and new COO Allan Dalton won everyone’s attention for the rest of the day. The guys even snuck away on Day 3 for a short walk to the Salvador Dali museum, which surely did not disappoint.
We always love an award ceremony where we win; and this was no exception. RLAH was awarded several top honors, including the Top Company in the entire franchise. Overall, the team was very impressed with St. Petersburg for its laid back atmosphere, great weather and walkable downtown with a plethora of restaurants, bars and shopping. But of course, the networking and learning with our extended Real Living family was really the highlight of the trip.
The District of Columbia Association of Realtors had a unique “Hard Hat Installation” last Wednesday at their soon-to-be newly christened headquarters in Dupont Circle. Since the space isn’t completely built out yet, everyone was wearing hard hats. RLAH was represented well at yet another local real estate association’s installation with Colin Johnson passing the baton to his business partner Chris Surrana, keeping the DCAR Presidency in the family. Jason Sherman, our Principal Broker was there to help swear Chris in and fellow Dupont office colleague, Stacey Barton, was also installed on the DCAR Board of Directors. We can’t wait to see the finished space and look forward to Chris keeping the momentum that Colin helped create in 2017.
